Dear Sir by Pas/Cal

reviewed by: Roger Shaw '08

I love this band like you wouldn’t believe. To date, all they’ve released is two EPs, this is their third. Yet somehow, despite the dearth of material, Pas/Cal has managed to become one of my favorite bands ever. The group has an incredible knack for catchy pop melodies, perfect arrangements, and taut songwriting. Those traits are well-showcased on the first track of this EP, ‘Little Red Radio’, which is quite possibly the tightest pop song that the band has constructed yet. From there, things unravel a bit until we get to the mostly-improvised experimental title track, which is by far the most bizarre song in their catalog, but somehow it works amazingly well. Unfortunately, the last two tracks here are pretty weak, but based on the strength of their previous work, I’m willing to forgive them. In a few months time, we’ll have in our hands the first full-length album from Pas/Cal, and I simply cannot wait. Maybe I love this band a little too much. But whoever said these reviews needed to be objective?
